This is a headcanon memory for when Dirk is about 11! Jake IMs Dirk after he gets mauled by a hellmurder island beast and Dirk talks him through taking care of the wound and sendificates him a futuregadget to do up his stitches.
There is definitely a divide between how chill Dirk sounds talking (well, typing) to Jake and his actual emotional state. He is anxious and distressed and kind of scared! But that's all internal and very muted down because he is in work mode. During his whole conversation with Jake he is as cool as a rad dude in shades should be, and actually fairly knowledgeable about how to treat bad wounds without having to google much! As Jake starts getting loopy Dirk pulls out a sketch pad and starts making plans for emergency med tech upgrades to brobot.
All in all a shitty memory because it brings to light how perilous their existence is--being alone and very far away form each other. But also somewhat encouraging in how they just deal with shit. Notably at no point is Dirk unsure of his ability to deal with this emergency; his anxiety is more 'Jake is in pain' than 'Jake is in danger'.
